if you are doing this for old items:

You can do this for any of your old mp3s which don’t have thumbnail by editing the item, going to source field. Add a space before the path, delete the space, then press tab
The new thumbnail from id3 should be generated
The song must have thumbnail in the wordpress gallery to be valid ID3
